(KTNC) - The Richardson County Board approved the One and Six Year Road Plan as presented when they met Tuesday.
The plan was approved following a public hearing. Judy Burgett asked about the status of the bridge northwest of Humboldt that collapsed last April. Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert said the engineering work is being done now and plans should be completed to allow bids for the project to be let this summer.
Commissioners opened sealed bids containing proposals to turn the Armory on the west edge of Falls City into a Jail and Law Enforcement Center. Four firms submitted bids. Representatives of two of the firms were present to comment on their proposals. The Board accepted the bids for further review.
In other business, Sheriff Randy Houser asked the Board for permission to either advertise for sealed bids for patrol vehicles, or to purchase vehicles on the state bid contract. Houser said he’s received a bid from Hullman’s Ford for a unit that was bid through the State Bid Contract.
Sheriff Houser also said that all law enforcement officials in Nebraska need 20 hours of training, which entails added expense to the Sheriff’s budget.
Commissioners gave Treasurer Austin Duerfeldt permission to make minor repairs, including new paint and carpeting, in the Treasurer’s office. The board also gave permission to make updates – including new paint – in the Extension Office.
Extension Educator Lindsay Chichester told the board that she’ll be leaving Richardson County for a position with Saunders County Extension.
