Brown Co Commission Accepts Road Oil Bid
02/25/2013

( KNZA )-The Brown County Commission is preparing for this summer’s chip and seal road projects.

The commission Monday accepted the lone bid from Vance Brothers of Kansas City, Missouri for the purchase of about a half-million gallons of road oil at a cost of $1.99 per gallon.

Commissioner Warren Ploeger said he was pleased with the bid, which was 37 cents lower than last year.

The county also plans to try a new product from Vance Brothers—RSIH Plus--which tests have shown helps retain the rock used during the chip and seal process.   That oil will cost $2.04 a gallon.

Commissioners were told seven counties—including Atchison, Doniphan and Jefferson-- tried the oil last year and were pleased with the results.

In other business, County Appraiser Paula Jones informed commissioners she had received verbal approval from the state on her request for a 15 day extension on mailing change of value notices.   Written approval will follow.
