(KTNC) - Area residents are invited to attend a free screening of the HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation,” Monday evening at the State Theatre in Auburn.
Peru State College’s Children’s Health, Activity and Nutrition Community Engagement – or CHANCE – initiative is sponsoring the screening, which is free and open to the public, as part of the Martin Luther King Junior day of service.
Following the screening, there will be a session where attendees can ask questions and discuss options available for proper nutrition and exercise.
According to Peru State College’s Human Performance Lab Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Education, Dr. Kyle Ryan, obesity rates have leveled off in urban areas but continue to rise in rural communities. He says people can come to the screening to learn more about the causes of the obesity epidemic and what individuals can do to counter it.
The screening begins at 5:30 Monday evening. The first 100 people through the door will receive a free pedometer.
