Pawnee City Council Considers Recycling Contract; Accepts Sewer Plant Completion
01/17/2013

(KTNC) -  Pawnee City is considering a proposal from a company to provide recycling services in town.  City Clerk Tammy Stephens explains that Chris Zegar (zay-gar) of Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska made a presentation to the City Council Monday night.  (play audio  :33)
Stephens says the city currently spends about $450 a month to haul its recycling trailer to Lincoln.  She said Zegar asked for a one-year contract with the city to handle recycling, which would include expanding the number of items that could be recycled.  (play audio   :20)
Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska also handles recycling for Tecumseh and Auburn and has inquired about recycling in Humboldt.
In other business Monday night, the Pawnee City Council approved a recommendation to accept the sewer plant project as complete.  The approval was not unanimous, as Stephens says there remain some outstanding warranty issues the contractor has yet to resolve.  (play audio  :39)
The council vote was split, two in favor and two against, to accept completion of the sewer plant.  Mayor Duane Westing cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the recommendation.
