( KNZA )-A committee has recommended that the closing of the Summerfield Elementary School be postponed.
Superintendent Bill Orth told the Prairie Hills USD 113 board of Education Monday evening that the Axtell Building Committee is recommending that necessary repairs be made to the Summerfield school and that the building continued to be used.
The board last March voted to close the facility at the end of this school year and move the pre-kindergarten through 4th students to the Axtell site.
Since then, the committee has been exploring building options at the Axtell school site to house the students.
Orth said the committee would like to continue to look at the Axtell building and, in a few years, review the possibility of closing the Summerfield building.
He said he had checked with attorneys and there is no legal action necessary to postpone the closing of the Summerfield building.
