(KNZA)--More than 4 ½ years behind bars is the fate of a Mayetta man found guilty last month for the violent abuse of a 28-year-old woman.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says the sentence was handed down Friday for 36-year-old Brian Vaught, whose prison time stems from the charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, two counts of domestic battery, three counts of obstruction along with disorderly conduct.
A Jury in early December found Vaught guilty on the charges, which arose from July crimes involving the female victim. Authorities say incidents included Vaught shattering her nose and cheekbone along with holding her at gunpoint while threatening to kill her.
The victim's young daughter was present at times during the violence.
Authorities learned of Vaught's actions when the woman managed to tell her ordeal to Holton Wal-Mart staff, who then called police.
Miller calls the woman, identified as a classic domestic abuse victim, incredibly brave for coming forward.
