(KNZA)--An investigation is launched following the death of a 30-year-old Highland man.
The small, Doniphan County community has been abuzz with rumors since the death of John Paul “Johnny” Jenkins on the morning of Saturday, January 5th.
His obituary, from Highland's Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, says the 30-year-old died “unexpectedly.”
Little has been stated publicly regarding the details of the case which has been under the investigation of the Highland Police Department.
The probe has now been turned over to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, with Deputy Director Kyle Smith confirming the agency's active role.
However, Smith would provide no additional information, referring all media inquiries to Doniphan County Attorney Charles Baskins. An email sent to Baskins has not yet been answered.
Due to the KBI's role in the probe, it appears criminal activity is suspected, but specifics remain unanswered.
Although identified as a resident of Highland, Jenkins has strong ties to the community of White Cloud where he served as a volunteer fire fighter for the White Cloud Fire Department.
He was laid to rest January 12th in the Olive Branch Cemetery in White Cloud.
