(KAIR) -- In a short meeting of the Atchison City Commissioners, the Atchison Housing Authority reported a positive 2012 and stated goals into 2013.

Director Sherry Swendson says the consortium established for the agency several years ago will help in the establishment of a new agency outside of the housing authority’s jurisdiction, which in turn, helps Atchsion Housing Authority.

Swendson says the Housing Authority as of this month is receiving a monthly check of 700 dollars for tower rental from Verizon, who placed a cell phone tower on top of their building that went online December 31st.

Swendson says major projects for the Mall Towers include tuck and seal work, as well as a new roof.

Toward the end of the meeting, City Manager Trey Cocking presented a request from the Atchison Chamber of Commerce for an additional three thousand dollar allocation.

Cocking says the Chamber had some extra repairs occur with their trolley and has withheld their last two months of rent from their office, owned by the city.

While no action was taken, the request caught the attention of Mayor Allen Reavis and Commissioner Jack Bower.

The Commission requested to have a Chamber representative attend a future meeting to further discuss that request.

The Commission also approved 2013 annual contract bids, accepting the low bid from Tate Plumbing for plumbing, Hays Heating & Cooling for HVAC services, Marlatt Construction for equipment rentals, Betts Electric for Amelia Earhart Festival electrical support and Servaes Quarry for aggregate sales.
