( KNZA )-A grant has been awarded for a Brown County road improvement project that will allow for the expansion of two businesses.
Brown County Commissioners today ( Monday ) signed an agreement with the Kansas Department of Commerce and approved a resolution accepting the $127,600 Community Development Block Grant on behalf of Hamlin Township.
A one mile stretch of Goldfinch Road between 290th and 300th Roads will be chip and sealed, allowing for the expansion of Grimm’s Gardens and Midwest Irrigation located at 2991 Goldfinch Road.
The two businesses will invest a combined total of $63,800 in new working capital in their respective operations.
The businesses must pay back one-fourth of the grant award amount, $31,900,over a ten-year period.
They are required to create at least 4 ½ new jobs.
Under the project, three drainage tubes will be replaced, the road bed improved by adding additional rock, drainage ditches cleared, and three layers of chip and seal applied.
