(KAIR) -- Many citizens in Atchison are mourning the loss of one its youth.
Desirae Crossland did many things a typical teenager would do, play video games, chatting with others on Facebook and listen to her iPod.
However, her life was cut short at 15 on Sunday evening as a result of single-vehicle accident in Leavenworth County.
But, according to her Atchison High School Principal, Forrest Covey, the freshman left a major footprint in the community through community service.

One of those places she volunteered at was Atchison Childcare.
Program Director Carrie Sowers says her positive attitude shined through to the children.

Funeral services are scheduled for two at Memorial Hall in Atchison.
Covey says there’s a way for the students to be able to be excused from classes to attend the services.

Covey says counselors through the district will be on hand and on call when school returns to session Thursday to assist grieving students.
A candlelight vigil was held in Desirae’s memory Tuesday evening at the family’s home in rural Atchison County.
