( KNZA )-A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 73 Highway in Leavenworth County Friday evening claimed the life of an Easton man and sent three other Easton residents to the hospital.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 56-year-old Terry Sullins was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about four miles north of Leavenworth.

The Patrol says Sullins was traveling north in a 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup when he attempted to pass a vehicle.  A southbound 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by 31-year-old Daniel Lee Watkins traveled onto the southbound shoulder in an attempt to avoid Sullins pickup.  However, Sullins vehicle also traveled onto the southbound shoulder and struck Watkins vehicle head-on.

Daniel Watkins and two passengers in his vehicle, 1-year-old Owen Watkins and 2-year-old Chase Watkins, were transported to the K-U Medical Center in Kansas City.

The Patrol says the two children, who were wearing safety restraints, received possible injuries. The two drivers were not wearing seatbelts.

The accident was reported shortly before 6:30 Friday evening.
