(KAIR) -- Dr. Christopher Greco, assistant professor of Music at Benedictine College, was one of the main category winners at the recent Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
Greco’s composition, “Maia,” was named Best Jazz piece during the awards ceremony, held at the historic Fonda Theater in Hollywood, CA on Nov. 15.
The event, which annually recognizes some of the music industry’s finest talent, included a star-studded red carpet, visual montage of nominated composer clips for film, TV and video games, and a splashy opening number by host and musical impressionist Greg London.
Greco explained that “Maia” is a composition based on a set of seven works inspired by the constellation Pleiades, or Seven Sisters, which contains seven stars, and is based on characters from Greek mythology.
Greco has worked in both the classical and jazz fields as a teacher, composer, performer, and scholar with a special interest in twentieth century musical traditions.
In addition to twentieth century disciplines, the Baroque and Classical periods are of particular interest to him for their rich traditions in composition and performance.
Greco joined the Benedictine College faculty in 2008 and teaches the music theory undergraduate sequence, composition, orchestration, chamber music, History of Jazz, and applied woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and bassoon).
