(KAIR) -- The Commercial Street mall in downtown Atchison will soon be illuminated with light for the holiday season.
The third annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place Thursday evening.
Atchison Chamber of Commerce Projects Coordinator Mary Jane Sowers says the festivities will begin at 5:15 with the arrival of Mister and Mrs. Santa Claus via historic fire truck.

On those candy canes are the times that Santa will be in his house in the 500 block of Commercial to hear wish lists from children.
He’ll be back to visit November 24th, December 1st, 8th and 15th from 10 until one.
Also, Sowers says Thursday’s activities will also have an incentive for parents to give to their local food pantries.

In an effort to stay warm during Thursday’s festivities, hot coffee and cocoa will be provided free of charge from the Girl Scout Troop 8347 and Cottage of the Seasons will be provide free bags of popcorn.
