Buchanan County Election Results
11/07/2012

(KAIR) -- Mike Strong has been elected to his third term as Buchanan County sheriff.

The Democratic incumbent defeated Republican challenger Pat Grove 18,537 votes to 16,070.

In the Western District County Commissioner race, between Ron Hook and Republican P.J. Kovac, Hook will serve four more years in office with 8,971 votes to 7,262 for Kovac.

In state measures from last night, voters defeated a measure that would have changed the setup of the state's seven-member Appellate Judicial Commission to give the governor four appointees, instead of the current three.

Voters passed a proposition which gives the city of St. Louis control of its police force for the first time since 1861. Currently, a five-person board comprised of the St. Louis mayor and four members appointed by the governor oversee the department.

The ballot initiative would allow the city to take over the administration of the department beginning next July.

Voters passed Proposition E, which bans the governor or his administration from trying to create an online insurance exchange.

Sixty-four percent of Buchanan County voters reportedly turned out for the elections.
