Calhoon Reflects on Election

(KAIR) -- It was described as a somber scene as longtime Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon was given a round of applause from dozens of supporters following his concession speech Tuesday evening.

The 18 year incumbent was unofficially defeated by around 800 votes by Atchison Police Officer Jack Laurie.

Calhoon offered his congratulations to Laurie and had a message for his supporters.

The longest serving sheriff in the history of Atchison County says he’s not sure what’s in his future come January 14th, when his term expires.

Calhoon says he’s very proud of several accomplishments that have occurred under his administration.
