(KNZA)--KQTV in Saint Joseph is reporting that Second Harvest Community Food Bank is being sued for discrimination.
The lawsuit, filed by former Programs Director Linda Laderoute, claims the discriminatory acts happened late last year, when she was being interviewed for a senior position, which she did not receive.
64-year-old Laderoute was given the “Program Director” title, but was eventually fired following an argument that occurred during a company meeting.
The lawsuit alleges that she was discriminated against due to her age, with the document stating that Laderoute was more qualified for the senior position than the candidate who received the job.
Second Harvest is denying any discrimination.
The case is scheduled for trial in January 2014.
The Saint Joseph-based Second Harvest provides food to low-income recipients through partnerships in local counties, and also provides the Backpack Buddies Program for hungry children at local schools in Hiawatha, Horton, and Effingham.
