( KNZA )-- The Brown County Commission considered a request Monday to lower the age requirement for riding the county’s senior citizen taxi service, and decided not to make any change.
Commissioner Keith Olsen told commissioners that the Horton senior citizens had requested that the age requirement to ride the senior citizen taxi by lowered to age 50 in order to allow some disabled veterans under the age of 60 to ride it.
The current age requirement is 60, with a spouse eligible if the other is 60.
After reviewing the Services for the Elderly handbook, County Attorney Kevin Hill told commissioners it’s a policy issue and if the age requirement was changed some of the guidelines in the handbook would have to be revised.
After discussion, Commissioner Warren Ploeger said he would like to keep the age requirement to ride the senior taxi at 60, which is where it has been since 1975. Commissioner Steve Roberts agreed. Commissioner’s voiced concerns about the potential problems a change in the age requirement might create.
