(KTNC) - As Election Day approaches, signs of various sizes are becoming more prevalent along roadsides. The Nebraska Department of Roads is issuing a reminder that it is against the law to erect political campaign signs – or any unpermitted sign – on a state highway right-of-way.
Department of Roads maintenance crews will remove signs that are improperly placed within the state highway rights-of-way. The signs will be stored for a short time at Department of Roads maintenance yards, where they can be reclaimed.
The reminder also applies to any errant plantings or harvesting operations, parked equipment, salvaged items, commercial sales or private business stands, and debris.
Nebraska state law stipulates that no encroachments on state highway right-of-way are permitted without written consent of the Department of Roads.
You can contact the Nebraska Department of Roads for more information regarding the boundaries of right-of-way corridors or permit information.
