Residents of Northeast Kansas have a rare opportunity coming up next week -- the 2012 Fall Forestry Field Day, an event that is held in a different location in Kansas each year, will be held at the Kickapoo PowWow Grounds in south Brown County on October 19^th.

Fun and educational sessions will be offered throughout the day that deal with a variety of topics, including stream restoration, successfully managing trees for wildlife, conservation and timber production, tree identification, successful tree planting techniques and much more. 

A variety of demonstrations and exhibits will also be available including an archery demonstration by Votruba Archery of Fairview, KS, “Skins & Skulls” and native plant exhibits, a sawmill demonstration, tips on how to sell timber and others.

                It is also rumored that Smokey the Bear is scheduled to make a special appearance!

The Fall Forestry Field Day will be held at the Kickapoo PowWow Grounds just off of Hwy K-20, approximately 5 miles west of Horton, Kansas.   Registration begins at 8:30 am, with activities starting at 9:00 am and concluding at 3:00 pm.  Lunch will also be provided on site by “Thunder Alley Barbeque” of Horton.
