( KNZA )--Unemployment was down in area northeast Kansas counties last month.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the August unemployment rates Friday.
Locally, Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate at 3.7 percent and Atchison County had the highest at 7.4 percent.
Elsewhere, Brown County’s unemployment rate in August was 5.4 percent; Doniphan, 6.4 percent; Jackson, 6.5 percent; Jefferson, 7 percent; Leavenworth, 6.8 percent; Marshall, 4.3 percent and Pottawatomie, 5.6 percent.
All the unemployment rates were down from July and down from last August.
Statewide, the jobless rate edged lower to 6.2 percent in August. That’s down from 6.3 percent in July and 6.7 percent in August 2011.
