(KAIR) -- An Atchison County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering following a motorcycle accident Sunday evening in south Saint Joseph.
According to Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon, Tim Miller was injured in the accident near Alabama Street on U-S 59 highway.
Calhoon says Miller was taken to the Heartland Hospital in Saint Joseph, and then transported to KU Medical Center where he remains a patient.
He says Miller suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
He anticipates that Miller, who has been with the force for less than a year, will be out of action for several months.
Calhoon says this is the latest setback in staffing for the sheriff’s department.

In addition to the shortage, they were already down another part-time deputy due to injuries.
Art Buckingham, who was also working as a police officer for the city of Highland, was injured in a criminal incident at Highland Community College in March, suffering a fractured shoulder.
