(KNZA)--A 50-year-old Kansas man jumps from the Pony Express Bridge at Elwood and lives to tell the tale.
The Saint Joseph News Press reports that it happened shortly before noon Tuesday when the man, identified only as a Kansas resident, jumped into the Missouri River.
Eyewitnesses apparently called 911 after seeing the man park his truck on the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 36 and then climb over the railing.
The Saint Joseph Fire Department rushed to the scene and rescued the man from the river with assistance from a sand barge that detached from the shore. The barge kept him from floating away from the rescuers.
He was transported to Saint Joseph’s Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Elwood Police Chief Larry Hunsaker says the reason why the man jumped remains unknown.
