(KAIR) -- The Atchison Police Department has been in full force for the past couple of weeks emphasizing their efforts on impaired drivers.
The Special Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, entitled this year “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” is designed by the Kansas Department of Transportation began August 16th and will conclude Monday night.
Several agencies take part in the program for grant monies, including the Atchison Police Department and Atchison County Sheriff’s Department.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says the program’s message has been working so far on the roads.

Wilson has advice for citizens for this coming weekend.

Wilson says the grant money from STEP is determined for which holiday enforcement occurs and goes towards the officers overtime used in enforcing the program.
