( KNZA )- The Doniphan County Commission is proposing a 2013 budget that calls for a 1.5 mill property tax levy reduction.
The commission approved the proposed budget for publication Monday on a 2-1 vote.
Commissioner Wayne Grable cast the lone no vote. Grable had sought a 2.7 mill levy reduction.
The proposed budget contains an estimated tax rate of 42.53 mills, which is expected to generate the same amount of tax dollars as this year due to an increase the county’s assessed valuation.
The commission will consider adoption of the budget following a public hearing on September 17th at 9 o’clock that morning.
Following a hearing Monday drawing no public comment, the commission adopted the 2013 Doniphan County ambulance, cemetery, fire and township budgets.
In other business, the commission accepted a proposal for the replacement of a bridge at the junction of 150th and Friendship Roads.
Husker Steel will furnish the materials at a cost of $105,777 and Norfolk Contracting the labor at a cost of $9,875.
The bridge replacement project will be completed next year.
And the Doniphan County Commission voted to enter into an agreement with Schwab-Eaton Engineers for the 2012 bridge inspection and analysis. The firm will inspect the county’s 110 bridges at a cost of $94.36 a bridge.
