( KNZA )--A Mayetta man will stand trial on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder.
According to the Jackson County Attorney’s office, 35-year-old Brian Eugene Vaught was bound over to Jackson County District Court following his preliminary hearing Thursday on six counts contained in an amended complaint filed against him earlier this week. Two counts of aggravated kidnapping were dismissed during the hearing.
Arraignment was set for September 12th at 1 p.m.
Vaught was arrested July 21st after Holton police received a call from the Holton Walmart concerning a domestic violence incident involving Vaught and a woman there.
Authorities who responded said the woman told them she and her 5-year-old daughter had earlier been held captive at Vaught’s home. She said that during the Wal-Mart incident, she had managed to escape and have employees at the store place the call. She said Vaught had threatened her and the child with firearms, and twice strangled her until she lost consciousness.
Vaught remains in the Jackson County Jail on 500-thousand dollars bond.
