The deadline is fast approaching for the annual “Put the Brakes on Fatalities” poster contest, sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Kansas children aged 5 to 13 are encouraged to enter artwork for the statewide contest, which is being backed locally by the Brown County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff John Merchant says he supports the campaign because it's a fun way for children to gain awareness of the serious dangers of roadway travels(Play Audio)
Those prizes include family packages from the Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure and the Courtyard by Marriott, of Salina, which will be awarded to three statewide winners, along with 50-dollar gas cards from Quik Trip Corporation.
A total of 18 regional winners in the six regions, broken down by age groups- 5 through 7; 8 through 10 and 11 through 13, will receive a bicycle and helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas.
All entries must be postmarked by Friday, September 14th.
