(KLZA) The Falls City Council Monday night voted unanimously to hire the Halbert Dunn & Halbert Law firm to provide all legal services for the CGB Enterprises Inc. project proposed for the south edge of Falls City that could involve annexation and tax incriment financing.
The Council also approved having the City Attorney prepare an amendment to city code that would allow for the sale of alcohol to begin at 9 a-m on Sunday’s instead of the current noon start time. Randy Raney, owner of R & D Liquor Store asked for the change.
Sherry Remmers who owns the Corner Liquor Store in Falls City said she did not believe the time should be changed.
The vote was 4-3 in favor making the change in the start time with Council members Kirby Roubidoux, Mike Moore and Jerry Oliver casting nay votes. Under Nebraska law the earliest time alcohol can be sold on Sunday is 6 a-m. It is up to each municipality to set the local start time.
In other business councilmen voted 7-0 to approve going to bids for a new digger-derrick truck for the Utility Department. Utility Superintendent Alan Romine said the truck has been in the budget for a couple of years. The estimated cost for the truck is $185,000.
Following a public hearing drawing no public comment the council gave favorable comment to a request for a liquor catering license for Rick Lemerond.
Council members also voted unanimously to have the City Attorney Create an ordinance amending a city code concerning the general powers and duties of the Library Board as proposed by Councilman Hal Sutter.
