(KTNC) - A new Humboldt City Council member was appointed Thursday night. The three present council members unanimously approved Mayor Mike Riley’s appointment of Jason James to fill the vacant Ward One position during a special meeting.
James fills the vacancy created when Riley was appointed mayor after the resignation of Jim McKim last month.
James will be formally sworn in at the next regular Humboldt City Council meeting. That will be either next Tuesday or on August 21st. The council would normally meet Tuesday, but as one of the three current council members will be absent, city officials are waiting for a determination from the City Attorney as to whether they will have a quorum required to hold a meeting.
When he is sworn in, James will serve the remainder of Riley’s term, which expires in December.
Six people applied to be considered for the council vacancy.
