Although he remains uncertain how he ended up in the new role, Brown County Commissioner Keith Olsen is voicing his surprise, and appreciation, for being appointed to the Kansas Advisory Council on Intergovernmental Relations(Play Audio)
The appointment, to the council, is made by Governor Sam Brownback.
Olsen will serve a four year term.
The Kansas Advisory Council On Intergovernmental Relations was created by the 2002 Kansas Legislature, and is comprised of 15-members.
The council bears a wide range of duties, including the study of services provided by the various type and levels of government within the state, possibilities for improving efficiency and organizational structure of government, as well as state and local tax structure and the revenue requirements and fiscal policies of the state and local governments.
The council is required to give particular attention to modernization of the structure of Kansas local government, the impact of urbanization on the organization and functions of local government, the impact of technology on the organization and functions of local government, and the relationships between state and local governments.
