KLZA - The Nemaha County Nebraska Fair begins today and continues through Sunday in Auburn. Most of the action takes place at the Nemaha County Fairgrounds, east of Highway 75.
Activities at the Fair begin today with the 4-H horse show this morning. This afternoon is the 4-H and open class sheep and meat shows, 4-H and open class rabbit shows and the shooting sports and archery events.
Friday events include the swine and dairy goat and pygmy goats shows; shooting sports and BB gun contest and the poultry show.
On Saturday the bucket calf and beef show will take place in the morning. The Clover Kid pet show and rocket launch is scheduled. Horse and livestock judging contests will be held in the afternoon.
Sunday highlights include the presentation of the McInninch Judging Trophy an d4-H Herdsmanship Awards followed by the livestock premium sale.
Other fair events include the awarding of the Pioneer Farm Family Award to Gary and LuAnn Bray of Johnson on Friday.
The Log Hoggers, who make wood sculptures using chainsaws and tree trunks will be on hand Friday, Saturday and Sunday with demonstrations at 11 a-m. 2, 4 and 7 p-m. A dozen carvings will be auctioned off Sunday night at 6:30 p-m with the proceeds going to support the fair activities.
The Grandstand shows this year will include: Travis Martin of Kansas City on Friday night. Tribute bands will perform Saturday night beginning at 9 p-m.
The Little Tuggers tractor pull will be Saturday at 7 p-m with the Huff-n-Puff Pullers of Tecumseh garden tractor pull at 12:30 p-m on Sunday.
Parades are planned from Friday and Saturday night at 6 p-m with this years theme being “Just Cause.” The Thomas D. Thomas shows will operate on the midway and there will be food stands available.
Auburn Mayor Scott Kudrna says the road construction in Auburn will not be a problem for the Nemaha County Fair. ( play audio :26 seconds )
