(KNZA)--The name of the Horton man killed when his home exploded early Friday evening is made public.
Dead is 58-year-old Ronnie L. Tulk, whose remains were recovered from the debris of his former home, located at 1588 2nd Avenue West.
Funeral arrangements for Tulk are pending at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton. He was found several hours after the blast, but authorities withheld his name until Monday morning. However, official confirmation is still awaited, pending additional testing, including dental records.
The explosion happened around 5:15 Friday evening, with numerous law enforcement, fire and rescue agencies, from throughout the area, rushing to the scene.
The home was leveled in the blast which is expected to have been caused by a probable gas explosion. However, those findings are preliminary, with the investigation, assisted by the State Fire Marshall’s Office, continuing. Shortly after the explosion, neighbors reported that Tulk often used propane inside the home, apparently to fuel a ventless heater.
Horton Police Chief Beau Hasenohr is issuing words of thanks to those who provided assistance to the rescue crews, supplying cold water and towels, as they worked first to extinguish the blaze, and then searched the smoldering rubble of the leveled home in search of Tulk.
