A chip seal project will begin on a 13.3-mile stretch of K-62 in Jackson and Nemaha Counties Wednesday ( June 27th ).
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the project will take place from the K-16 junction in Jackson County north to the K-9 junction in Nemaha County.
KDOT says the resurfacing project will smooth the road and fill surface defects that can shorten pavement life.
For the chip and seal application, workers will spread a thin layer of asphalt over the pavement then coat it with a layer of rock chips that is pressed into place with heavy rollers.
Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Beginning on Wednesday, northbound and southbound K-62 traffic will be reduced to one lane for both directions along with intermittent closures of adjacent cross roads during the project work hours.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via a pilot car and flagger operation. There will be a posted speed limit of 45 mph and an 11-foot width restriction through the project work zone during working hours.
Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.
Blevins Asphalt Construction Company Inc.of Mt. Vernon, Missouri is the primary contractor on the nearly $497,000 project, which is scheduled for completion in late August, weather permitting.
