As we pause today to remember those servicemen and women that have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, one area veteran shares his experience.

That’s retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Bill Irons. He’s called Atchison home for the past 60 years.
He served as part of a Marine fire squadron in Japan during World War II.
He enlisted into the Marines in 1941. Prior to enlisting, he was working for the Glen L Martin Company.
Irons explains what made him want to serve.

Irons says he has lots of stories about different experiences serving during World War II, but describes his memories in the field in one analogy.

Irons was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1945 and eventually moved to Atchison to work for Blish-Mize for 30 years before retiring.
