The Auburn girls and Lafayette High School boys were the winning teams at Tuesday’s Falls City Invitational Track Meet. Seven teams participated in the meet.
Final team scores on the girls’ side had Auburn with 104-and-a-third points to edge Lafayette, which was second with 99 points. Nebraska City was third with 80-and-two-thirds points. Southern totaled 77 points for fourth place, and Falls City was a close fifth with 75 points. Johnson County Central and Horton rounded out the team standings.
Individually, Falls City junior Claire Poppe and Auburn senior Jacqueline Frary each won two events. Poppe won both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, while Frary won the high jump and the triple jump.
Auburn also got first place finishes from Amy Mann in the pole vault, Catherine Davison in the 1600-meter run, and Emily Slama in the 800-meter run. Auburn also won the 3200-meter relay with the team of Amy Mann, Julie Slama, Lindsey Mertee, and Emily Slama.
In addition to Poppe’s two wins, Falls City got a first place finish from Hailey Baxter in the shot put.
Southern had two individual first place finishes. Jeryn Creek won the long jump, and Shelby Creek won the 400-meter dash.
Lafayette won the boys’ team race with 119 points. Southern was second with 101.5, with Falls City 3rd with 88 points, Johnson County Central 4th with 76.5, Horton 5th with 69 points, Nebraska City 6th with 64 points, and Auburn 7th.
Three athletes won two events each. Jacob Harding of Southern won the 110 and 300-meter hurdles; Horton junior Jacob Lott won the discus and shot put; and Jurell Green of Lafayette won both the 100 and 200-meter dash.
For Johnson County Central, Zach Kaster won the 400-meter dash, Kyle Laug in the pole vault, and Scott Johnson won the 3200-meter run.
In addition to Harding’s two first place finishes, Southern got first place finishes from Jordan Murphy in the high jump, Jacob Creevan in the 800-meter run, and Zach Creevan in the 1600-meter run.
Falls City had a couple runner-up finishes. Cord Huettner was second in the shot put Jordy Stoller was second in the triple jump. The Tigers’ also finished a close second to Southern in the 3200-meter relay, with the team of Logan Auffert, Tate Hayes, Cody Schawang, and David von Behren.
