Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge will be holding Environmental Education Programs on weekends this spring. Naturalists will be conducting interpretive programs for visitors. The refuge headquarters will be open on weekends Saturday, March 24 through May 6. On Saturdays and Sundays during that time the headquarters will be open to the public from 10:00 A-M until 4:00 P-M. Volunteers will be available to answer questions and provide information on wildlife abundance and their locations. Visitors can view wildlife exhibits, purchase gift shop items, and participate in programs. Refuge The ten-mile auto tour route and foot trails are open from sunrise to sunset for wildlife observation.
Warm weather has many trees and wildflowers in full bloom making the refuge very colorful. Spring migration is continuing on with many water birds arriving this week including large flocks of America White Pelicans and the first shorebirds of the season. The refuge’s nesting bald eagles are active and have been observed using a nest site near Pintail Pool and Moist Soil Unit Five. Visitors may reach the refuge by driving Interstate-29 to exit 79, and continue 2½ miles west on Highway 159.
