Gary Lee Bashor, 62, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Effingham, KS, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Pinnacle Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Olathe, KS.


Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home,

Atchison, with the Rev. Keith Hoover, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery,

Rushville, with Military Funeral Honors. Family will receive friends on Friday for one hour prior to

the funeral at the funeral home. Family suggests memorials in honor of Gary be to the Alzheimer’s

Association or Good Shepherd Hospice of Olathe, KS. Words of remembrance and comfort may be left

Gary L. Bashor was born on November 26, 1951 in Atchison, the son of the late Cecil and Normajean

(Turpin) Bashor. He was a graduate of ACCHS (Atchison County Community High School) in Effingham,

KS. Gary served in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway during the Vietnam War. Gary learned to be an

electrician while in the Navy and continued in that trade upon being honorably discharged in 1977.


Survivors include a son, Mark Bashor; a daughter, Kari Brannen, both of Des Moines, IA; two brothers,

Lloyd (Valle) Bashor, Wichita, KS, and Daryl (Brenda) Bashor, Baker, MN; seven grandchildren; and his

best friend, Rick Thompson.
