Harold E. Stirton
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Muscotah, KS

Harold E. Stirton, 84, of Muscotah, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 21, 1930 in Horton, Kansas the son of William and Bena Dahl Stirton Sr. Harold graduated from Atchison County Community Schools, Highland Community College and Mount St. Scholastica. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Harold was a school teacher in Atchison, Brown and Jackson Counties for over 40 years retiring from Atchison County Community Schools in 1988. He also enjoyed raising live stock on his farm west of Muscotah, Kansas. Harold was a member of the Muscotah United Church, VFW Post 1367 and the American Legion Post 0058. On July 30, 1950 he married Bernice Daugherty in Circleville, Kansas. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Curtis (Pam Green) Stirton of Muscotah, Kansas; two daughters, Beverely (Cecil) Jeffrey of Effingham, Kansas and Barbara (Fleet) Scoggins of Muscotah, Kansas; six grandchildren, Robyn (Matt) Allen, Amanda (Andrew) Noll, Matthew (Amy) Jeffrey, Wyatt (Katie Parkey) Scoggins, C.J. Stirton and Lane Scoggins; six great grandchildren, Jackson and William Allen, Hallie and Tenley Noll, Miles and Merritt Jeffrey; his niece that he and Bernice raised, Marlene (Brad) Hermann of Topeka, Kansas; sister, Violet Harden of Everest, Kansas and his special four legged friend, Valentine. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, William, Charles and Ralph Stirton, two sisters, Bertha Wilson and Mable Jones. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the mortuary. Burial with Military Graveside Rites will be at the Brush Creek Cemetery Southeast of Horton, Kansas.
