Viola B. (Robertson) Creed Watzke Oliver, 100, of Sabetha, KS formerly of Humboldt, NE was born on May 4, 1913 on a farm northwest of Humboldt, NE to Clarence and Goldie (Skillett) Robertson. Viola moved with her family to a farm four miles south of Baileyville, KS on String Town Road in 1919 and returned to Humboldt in 1925. She attended country school near Baileyville, KS and Humboldt public schools graduating from Humboldt High School with the class of 1932. Viola attended her 81st Alumni in Humboldt in May of 2013 at the age of 100.

On March 11, 1936, Viola was united in marriage to Ray Eldon Creed in Wahoo, NE. To this union a son Ronald was born. Ray died of a heart attack on November 21, 1971. Viola was a working farm wife, helping on the farm, milking cows, raising chickens, turkeys, lahasa apso, miniature schnauzer’s and cocker spaniel puppies which the majority of the puppies went to New York State. She crafted and took them to the airport herself. Viola was an accomplished seamstress making her own clothes and patterns while sewing for many other people. Viola was no stranger to hardship. In addition to the difficulties of starting out farming as a newly wed in the 1930’s, she was a two time cancer survivor, underwent many surgeries including a knee replacement at the age of 95, and endured the loss of three husband and three good marriages. Viola very much loved her families and her families very much loved her. She married Bryan Watzke and the Bern Untied Methodist Church on April 7, 1974. The couple resided in Falls City, NE and did a lot of traveling. Bryan passed away July 22, 1981 of leukemia. On September 8, 1984, Viola married Roy Oliver at the Bern United Methodist Church. They resided in Falls City until moving to Bern in 1987. The couple moved to the Apostolic Christian West Village in 2005 before Ray died of a heart attack on April 21, 2006. In July of 2010, Viola moved to the Apostolic Christian Home where she enjoyed her family, preserving, gardening, flowers, embroidery, crocheting, and taught herself to knit at the age of 90. She was a member of the Better Homes Unit and the Bern United Methodist Church. Viola passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS having reached the age of 100 years, eleven months, and twenty-seven days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Ray Creed, Bryan Watzke and Roy Oliver, and grandson-in-law Philip Smith.

Viola is survived by her son Ronald and his wife Linda of Bern, KS; granddaughters: Sharmon Polson (John), and great-granddaughters Sadie, Hattie, and Sophie of Vermillion, KS; Tamala Smith of Westminister, CO. and great-granddaughter Jordan Smith of Oakland CA; twin stepsons: Larry Watzke (Anne) of Blair, NE. Jennifer Simpson, (Kilani) Brayden, MacKuenzie and Eli of Omaha, NE.; Tanya Baynes, (Dr. Keith) Genevieve, Ivan, Oliver, And Everett of Brookfield, WI.; Ryan Watzke, (Melissa) Elizabeth and Brianna of Elkhorn, NE.; Nicole Tefft (Tim) of Blair, NE. and Lara Watzke and her fiancé Matt Blum of Elkhorn, NE.; Garry Watzke (Linda) Amy Helstrom (Jim) Emma, Luke, and twins, Gunnar and Rex; Andrew Watzke (Amy) Benjamin and Addison; Megon Watzke and her son Iver; Step-daughter Sharon Hartupee (Art) of Allen, TX; her children, Steve Heib (Michele) Kyler and Mylie of Frisco, TX.; Brad Heib (Debra) Nicole, Kevin and Lance of Valley View, TX; Stacy Darnell (Brian) Maddison and Matthew of Argryle, TX; a sister Verna Haddock and her friend Al Cerne of Olathe, KS; and her children Holly Miriani (Joe) of Lake Waukomis, MO; 6 great nieces and nephews and families, Harold Harris of Lawrence, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Bern, Kansas with Reverend Deborah Hanes-Nelson officiating.

Visitation will be from noon-8p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, May 12.

Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Bern United Methodist Church.
