Daryl L. Courter, 53, Valley Falls, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1960, at Winchester, the son of Dale Richard and Mary E. Gillum Courter. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1980. In his youth he had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls.
Daryl was a City of Valley Falls employee for almost 30 years. He had served as the Public Works Superintendent since 2003. Daryl had worked for Elliott Plumbing in Valley Falls and at Hamm Quarries in Perry.
He married Gwen Racine on May 28, 2003, at Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Richard Courter on April 8, 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen, of the home; a daughter, Kelly (Shaun) Smith, and their children, Ayden and Brooklyn, all of Atchison; two sons, Brad (Beverly) Courter, and their children, Aryonna and Quentin, all of Atchison, and Travis Courter, and his children, Faith, James, Alyssa, J.J. and Kaden, all of Independence, MO; his mother, Mary Courter, Valley Falls; a brother, Richard Glenn Courter, Nortonville; two sisters, Sherri (Jeff) Jeffers, Valley Falls, and Mary Ann (Steve) Hansen, Wymore, NE. He will also be missed by his pet Husky, Brandi.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Valley Falls School East Gymnasium. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
