Ernest Allen Rudy, Jr., 93, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on April 2, 2014, in Weatherford.
Ernest was born July 17, 1920, to Ernest Allen and Elfa Fisher Rudy in Atchison, Kansas. He spent much of his youth in the Soldier and Holton Kansas communities, where he graduated from Soldier High School. At age 16, Ernest joined the National Guard and later served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945 during World War II in the European theater.
Throughout his life Ernest worked in the aerospace industry, first in Wichita, Kansas, at Beech Aircraft in the 1950s, and then in later years he operated his own business in the Fort Worth Texas area distributing metal tubing to the aerospace industry.
Ernest married Betty Welch on May 10, 1948, at Raton, New Mexico. Survivors include his wife, Betty and two sons, Ernest Rudy III (Debbie) of Weatherford, Texas, and Garth Rudy (Sarah) of England; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Rudy Hug of Holton, KS; one brother, Keith Rudy (Colleen) of Dallas, TX; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry Rudy; and a brother, Lyle Rudy.
Ernest leaves behind a legacy of strength and courage. Even in his weakest moments he showed us all what it is to be strong. He was just that way.
Family and friends will meet on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 10:30 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton to go in procession to the Soldier Cemetery for an 11:00 memorial graveside ceremony.
