Stephen Gerard Nordhus, 61, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Seneca, KS, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS surrounded by his family.
A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Steve was known for his unwavering faith and deep love for his family. He led with grace and example, shaping the lives of those around him.
Steve was born on January 2, 1964, in Seneca, to Sylvester "Pat" and Rose Ann (Reinecke) Nordhus. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1982. He attended NEK Area Votech School in Beloit, KS, graduating in 1984, and began work for Xerox Inc. in Topeka, KS where he worked for over 33 years. He continued his career at Stormont Vail Health where he worked in the Transportation Department until retirement in December 2020.
Steve married the love of his life, Bonnie Haverkamp, on June 21, 1986 at St. Bede's Catholic Church in Kelly, KS. They built a beautiful life together and raised four children. He was a previous member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Society, and current member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1769.
Steve was truly a family man and adored spending time with his family by going to K-State games and tailgating for many years. He loved his Wildcats!
Steve was preceded in death by his parents: Sylvester "Pat" Nordhus on June 14, 2010 and Rose Ann Nordhus on April 16, 2023, a brother Timothy Nordhus on August 23, 1994, father-in-law Melvin W. Haverkamp on November 10, 2020, and a brother-in-law Robert Hildebrand on October 14, 2018.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 39 years, two sons, Brad (Ashley) Nordhus and Jacob (Gabby) Nordhus both of Seneca; two daughters, Stephanie (Bryan) Sperfslage of Sabetha, KS and Melissa (Derek) Love of Seneca. He will be deeply missed by his precious grandchildren: Camden and Keenan Nordhus, Charlotte, Hattie, Vayda, and Evelyn Sperfslage, Emmett, Owen, and Sutton Nordhus, and Henry and Jack Love.
Steve is also survived by a brother, Martin (Terry) Nordhus of Seneca; three sisters, Sylvia Hildebrand of Kansas City, MO, Tina (Kenny) Strathman and Geriann (Gary) Melcher both of Seneca; his mother-in-law Carolyn Haverkamp of Seneca; a sister-in-law Sylvia Nordhus of Olathe, KS, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 10 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Seneca. A rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Monday, August 4, 2025 at 2 P.M. and the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be at 7 P.M.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Sts. Peter and Paul School in Seneca, Coins for a Cause, and sent in care of the family.
