Peggy C. Romero, 67, of Horton, KS, also known in the area as Peggy Hall or Peggy Jessepe, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025 at her daughter's home with family by her side. She was born December 7, 1957 in Liberal, KS, the daughter of Rosalie Alires and Jimmy Romero.
In her early years, Peggy was a Certified Nurse's Aide. For most of her life, she was a homemaker taking care of her children.
She was a devout Catholic. She taught Sunday School at Our Lady of the Snows on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation.
Peggy enjoyed playing bingo, garage sales, the time she went to the Bahamas with her daughter, being by her dog "Babygirl," she loved to smoke her cigs, she wished she got to spend more time with her granddaughters who she thought the world of. she was a Selena fan. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She married Richard Wabaunsee; to this union was her 6 children. They later divorced. She married Dewey James Jessepe on May 17, 1995; he preceded her in death on February 18, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie; her dad, Jimmy Romero; son, Richard Wabaunsee Jr. and daughter, Lasie Wabaunsee; her grandmother Eva Romero; 5 brothers, George Gonzalez, Raymond Romero, Timothy Alires, James Romero, Allen Romero and a sister, Susie Martinez.
Survivors include her daughter, Lindsey Wabaunsee of Topeka, KS; 3 sons, Ricky Wabaunsee of Horton, KS, Clifton Wabaunsee and Gregory Wabaunsee both of Topeka, KS; her dog, Baby Girl of Horton, KS; 3 sisters, Joyce Arredondo (Javier), Beverly Romero and Theresa Alires all of Liberal, KS; 2 brothers, Johnny Gonzales of Wichita, KS and Jerry Romero of Belton, TX; 4 grandsons, Dominic Wabaunsee of Aurora, CO, Simon Mesa of Holton, KS, twins, Colton Wabaunsee of Seminole, OK and Phoenix Wabaunsee of Green Bay, WI and 2 granddaughters, Jalisa "Big Girl" Wabaunsee of Green Bay, WI and Rosalind "Sister Girl" Wabaunsee of Topeka, KS; and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Rosary will be prayed at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. A visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, KS.
