George J. Mattson, 59, of Hiawatha, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Survivors include his wife Gay Ann Mattson, brother Daniel (DJ) Breeden; niece Jacqueline (Jackie) Ross; three step-sons: Marshall Welch, Russell Welch, Trevor Welch; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren, two dogs and two cats, along with many beloved families and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Janos and Erika Losonszky.
George's work history included working as a commercial plumber, draftsman for Evergy, Wertenberger Trucking, Brock and Associates, York Manufacturing and KDOT. He also was a storm chaser for Riley County, Kansas.

When he wasn't working, he was busy with his hobbies: amateur radio operator, foosball, and on call for the storm chasers of Riley County. George studied Martial Arts since he was a teen until he physically could not.

George was a military brat, was born at Heidelberg, Germany and became a US Citizen at the age of 12. George loved being a US citizen and adamant supporter of The Constitution, the Amendments, and the Federalist Papers.

A celebration of George's life is planned for Saturday, May 10, at the Hiawatha City Lake north shelter house, by 1 p.m. A pot luck dinner is planned with meats provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to America's VetDogs (service dogs for first responders and military) which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
