Paul Dean Walton, 88, of rural Highland, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri surrounded by family.
P.D. was born on August 1, 1936, in Highland, Kansas. He attended elementary school in the Iola/Highland communities and later Highland High School. P.D. served with the Kansas Army National Guard based out of Hiawatha, for two years. P.D. was a member of the Highland Christian Church; and served on the Highland School Board for 4 years.
On July 26, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Rodecap in Fanning, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Tory, Candy, Kristee, and Jill. They raised their family on the farm near Highland.
P.D. was a farmer and worked construction for many years where he helped build many bridges including the St. Joe bridge and bridges on Highway 36 to Hiawatha. He later worked for the Doniphan County Road & Bridge Department for 10 years before he retired.
In his retirement he loved being in his workshop where he built many cabinets out of barn boards for family members, along with selling many at the Sparks Flea Market.
P.D. & Sherry owned and operated the restaurant, Walton’s Corner for many years. While Sherry cooked and waited on people, P.D. kept the coffee drinkers entertained.
He is preceded in death by his parents P.J. and Minnie Dittemore Walton, sisters: Alma Sisk, Lenore Snapp, Juanita Ausmus, and a son Tory Walton.
Survivors include his wife Sherry, daughters: Candy (Kevin) McNorton of Troy, KS, Kristee (Glen) Grable of Wathena, KS, Jill Johnson of Basehor, KS; daughter in law Cindy Walton of New Strawn, KS, and P.D.’s twin sister Phyllis Walton of Atchison, KS; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren with a grandchild on the way,
A celebration of P.D.’s eternal life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Community of Christ at Fanning. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery with military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 10 a.m. Thursday where the family will meet friends that evening from 6-8 p.m.
