Harold Amos Neher, 97, beloved resident of rural Hiawatha, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, November 13, 2024. Born March 7, 1927 on the family farm near McCune, Kansas, Harold and his parents relocated to begin farming in Brown County in 1945.

In October of 1955, Harold met his beautiful LaRhoda and the two began their love story that would last their lifetime. They married on March 18, 1956 and for 68 years they built a home filled with love, hard work, and commitment.

Harold’s love for the Lord and his church was a cornerstone of his life, and his faith guided him in all that he did. He was a member of Zion Methodist Church and held numerous offices. He was a longtime Sunday School Teacher and Church Greeter.

A lifelong farmer and cattleman, and lover of the land, Harold’s passion for agriculture and devotion to his farming operation was a guiding force in his life. In 1975, he and his family were honored as the Kansas Farm Family of the Year, a recognition of their hard work, commitment to sustainable farming, and contributions to Kansas agriculture. Harold took great pride in his fields and his farm, and his legacy will live on through the land he cherished.

Harold was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Harold was always ready to play games especially Pegs and Jokers. He built many sets for family and friends. The grandkids could always count on a game of “Touched You Last” after saying their goodbyes!

Known for his orneriness, jokes, and pranks, and making everyone laugh, Harold was a deeply respected member of the Hiawatha community. He held many offices, served on multiple boards and committees and was greatly involved in 4-H.

Harold is survived by his loving wife LaRhoda of the home and his children: Terry (Dawn), Tim (Lisa), and Tammie Forbes (Pat); nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many extended family members all who cherished him deeply.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, Ruben Amos Neher; his mother, Dorothy Truth (Lange) Neher; and his sisters, Lillian (Neher) Bomley and Geraldine (Neher) Long.
