Joseph Edward Heim, 74, of Dawson, Nebraska was born on September 9, 1950, in Falls City, Nebraska to Lowell Edward and Violet Katherine (Kottich) Heim. He was raised on the family farm north of Dawson and graduated from Dawson-Verdon High School with the class of 1968. Joe then continued his education by attending Southeast Community College in Milford where he received his degree in 1970. On February 20, 1970, Joe entered active-duty status in the U.S. Navy and served his country until his honorable discharge at Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland on August 19, 1972.

Joe passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at his home in Dawson, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of 74 years, 1 months and 13 days. He is preceded in death by his parents Lowell and Violet Heim.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Michelle of Dawson, son Joseph Heim Jr. and wife Ketti of Lincoln, daughter Jessica Kalkofen and husband Rob of Arvada, CO; grandchildren: Joseph Heim III of Lincoln, Sophia Hill, Edward Hill, and Carter Kalkofen all of Arvada, CO; brother Charles Heim of Lincoln, his sister Ann Tobin and husband Ben of King City, MO; brothers-in-law: Jim Koch of Dawson, Larry Koch of Dawson, Richard Koch and wife Kathie of Nebraska City, NE; sisters-in-law Annette Bausch and husband Larry of Beemer, NE; Jean Brightup and husband Joe of Topeka, KS;

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, Nebraska with Father Anthony Bedient officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by Father Bedient at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, Nebraska.

Inurnment will immediately follow mass at the Heim Cemetery in Dawson with full military honors conducted by the Nebraska Naval Funeral Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given the St. Mary’s Refurbishment Fund, Penn Colony, or to the Heim Cemetery Fund.
