Carl Edward Tharman, of Doniphan County, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2024 at the age of 85.
He was born October 19th, 1938 to Arthur and Elizabeth Staudenmaier Tarman.
Carl's desire was to work the land. After graduating high school in 1956, he worked a short time for Blish-Mize and Snowden in Atchison. That following spring he jumped headlong into the world of farming and never looked back. November 20, 1961, he married Ruth Anna Jacobson. As the family grew, he needed to provide additional security for his family. Thus, he took a job at Rockwell in Atchison that was only intended to be for a year or less; first as a trouble shooter and then as a welder. One year turned into two and so on. Those 10 years were a juggling act: expanding the farm, building a house (with restrooms-no more Outhouse), and being involved in his growing family.
Carl was a member of the St. Benedicts Catholic church, attending every Sunday and all days of holy obligations. He enjoyed dancing, a good joke, playing cards, spending time with his family, fishing, farming, reading, and, “shooting the breeze” with neighbors.
When he finally decided to retire from farming, his new hobby was driving his Kubota everywhere possible. He was easily spotted in his orange Buggy wearing overalls, bright-colored cap, and smoking a cigar as he meandered across the backroads of Doniphan County.
Survivors include, seven children, Carl A. (Kathy) Tharman, Atchison, KS; Steven (Stephanie) Tharman, Paxico, KS; Kenneth (Michelle) Tharman, Long Island, KS; Janet (Leonard) Thooft, Hoyt, KS; Raymond (Denise) Tharman, Andover, KS; Paul (Kim) Tharman, Sherman, TX; Becky (Jerry) Hudgins, Topeka, KS; daughter-in-law Kelly Tharman, Topeka, KS; five sisters; Gertrude Eddy, Ft.
