Shirley Mae Robertson Cameron, 86, of Denison, KS, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at Vintage Park in Holton. She was born February 1, 1938 in Denison, KS, the daughter of Harvey William and Lucy Lucille (Linnell) McAlexander.
Shirley graduated from Denison High School in 1956. She was a lifelong member of the Denison community. In her early years, Shirley worked for the National Reserve Life Insurance Company in Topeka for 2 years in the Accounting Department. For most of her life, she was a homemaker. After her children got older, Shirley babysat.
She was a member of the Denison Bible Church and Ladies Missionary Group at the church. While she lived in Holton, she attended the First Baptist Church. From age 10-18, she was a member of the Clover Leaf Club and 4-H Denison Builders. She was also an active member of Jackson County Friends of Hospice.
Shirley married Curtis Junior Robertson on February 10, 1957 in Denison, KS. After 32 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1989. To his union, 4 children were born, Kathryn, Curtis, Cynthia and Laura.
On December 13, 2013, she married Guy Oswin Cameron, he survives.
Survivors include her 4 children, Kathryn S. Lockhart (Michael) of Denison, KS, Curtis L. Robertson (Michell) of Topeka, KS, Cynthia K. Gurwell (Scott) of Liberty, MO and Laura L. Newman-Wassum (Jeff) of Quenemo, KS; 2 brothers, Harvey McAlexander (Sandy) of Topeka, KS and Fred L. McAlexander (Patricia) of Topeka, KS; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a step-son, Rex Cameron (Cindy) of Holton, and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Lucy McAlexander; 2 sisters, Patricia Wallisch and Virginia L. Turner; a brother, LaVerne J. McAlexander; a step-daughter, Joyce Lindloff, and a step-great-great-grandson, Daylen.
Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Holton. Inurnment will follow at the South Denison Cemetery. Family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
