Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Gilner) Wellman, 83, of Meriden, died Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at home.

She was born December 1, 1940 at Teaneck, N.J., the daughter of James Presley, Jr. and Beatrice Theresa Lickteig Gilner. She was a 1959 graduate of Greeley High School, Greeley, KS.

She worked at many jobs through her life, She enjoyed catering and baking cakes as a caterer, running an in home daycare service for 11 years, serving as a cook at Jefferson West Middle School and working three years at Denison State Bank in Meriden, before retiring in 2005.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden. She also served 35 years as a cub scout leader, earning a Silver Beaver award, St. George Award, her Wood Badge and she helped develop and run the Cub Scout Day camp.

She was married to Ronald Roy Wellman on July 21, 1961 at Greeley, KS, he survives at home. She is also survived by, one daughter, Rhonda (Chris) Baker, Meriden, four sons, Scott (Cheryl) Wellman, Meriden, Jim (Cathy) Wellman, Ozawkie, Dave (Sherry) Wellman, Horton, Roy (Heather) Wellman, Meriden, KS, two sisters, Mary Catherine Honn, Mound City, Theresa Jasper, Bush City, four brothers, Frank (Joyce) Gilner, New Hampton, N.Y., Robert (Jeanette) Gilner, Overland Park, Andrew (Marge) Gilner, Tonganoxie, James (Kathy) Gilner, Garnett, 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Carolyn O’dell, a brother, Bernard Gilner, and a daughter-in-law, Lori Wellman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 9, 2024 at St. Aloysius Church, Meriden. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 Am, Saturday before Mass with Rosary Recitation at 9:30 AM. Memorials suggested to Jefferson County Friends of Hospice.
