Orin Floyd Marshall, 76, of Valley Falls, KS, formerly of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with family by his side. He was born December 26, 1947 in Medford, OR, the son of William Robert and Lois Elizabeth (McCormack) Marshall.

Orin was an Army “Brat”, traveling around the world and eventually settled in Fort Scott, KS. He graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1966. He earned his Bachelors and Master- Degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University.

Beginning in his early age of 12, he worked for the Fort Scott Tribune, until he was age 27. After college graduation, he taught for 2 years in El Dorado, then continued teaching 5th Grade at Holton Central School for 30 years until retirement. After retirement, he substitute taught in the Valley Falls School District,

He was a member of Holton Evangel (formerly the EUM Church) and Valley Falls United Methodist Church. He was a 42 year member of the Youth Ministry for Holton and Valley Falls Districts and Great Plains Conference. He served on the USD 336 School Board, Beck Bookman Library Board and was a member of the Holton Optimist Club. Recently, Orin and Lenora were recognized with the Dorcas E. Turner Volunteer Award, for volunteering at the Delaware Township Library.

Orin married Lenora Mabel Waltz on July 14, 1967 in Girard, KS. They celebrated over 56 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Marshall.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora of the home; son, Robert W. Marshall (Monika) of Wiesbaden, Germany; daughter, Cheryl A. Brosa (Cary) of Valley Falls, KS; 3 sisters, Janet Snively of Lubbock, TX, Llona Steele (Lynn) of Geneva, IL and Leota Marshall de Vazquez (Junior) of San Juan, Puerto Rico; brother, Alan Marshall (Sheila) of Lubbock, TX and 5 grandchildren, Kevin and Sean Marshall (Logan), Kyle (Morgan), Cole and Abbey Brosa.

Family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Valley Falls United Methodist Church in Valley Falls. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at Valley Falls Cemetery.
